AI-Enabled Workflow Optimization Models for Digital Enterprise Transformation
Abstract
AI-enabled workflow optimization refers to the use of artificial intelligence technologies to streamline, automate, and enhance the execution of enterprise processes in order to support digital transformation objectives. Digital enterprises increasingly depend on complex workflows that span organizational silos, incorporate heterogeneous data sources, and require rapid responsiveness to evolving business conditions. AI methods—including machine learning, intelligent process automation, reinforcement learning, and natural language processing—can analyze historical process data, detect inefficiencies, recommend improvements, and autonomously adapt execution strategies. This paper investigates the theoretical foundations, model architectures, implementation strategies, and practical outcomes of AI-enabled workflow optimization in digital enterprise contexts. It synthesizes research on key enabling technologies, discusses advantages such as improved process quality and agility, and highlights challenges related to integration complexity, explainability, and organizational adoption. A comprehensive research methodology is proposed to design, evaluate, and benchmark optimization models across multiple enterprise domains. Empirical results from industry and academic case studies are discussed to illustrate performance gains and adoption trade-offs. The study concludes by assessing the maturity of current models, offering insights into best practices, and identifying future research directions to support sustainable digital transformation through AI-driven workflow optimization
