Service Decomposition and Fault Tolerance Strategies in Distributed Cloud Applications
Abstract
Cloud computing has revolutionized the deployment and management of distributed applications by providing scalable, on-demand computing resources. However, as cloud applications grow in complexity, ensuring reliability and resilience becomes a critical challenge. Service decomposition, which involves breaking down monolithic applications into smaller, manageable microservices, enables modularity, scalability, and efficient resource utilization. Alongside decomposition, fault tolerance strategies are essential to maintain uninterrupted service delivery in the presence of hardware failures, software bugs, or network disruptions. This research explores the integration of service decomposition and fault tolerance mechanisms in distributed cloud applications. It examines decomposition techniques, including microservices and service-oriented architecture, and evaluates fault tolerance strategies such as replication, checkpointing, failover, and self-healing. By analyzing performance, reliability, and scalability, this study identifies best practices and proposes a framework for designing distributed cloud applications that are resilient, efficient, and maintainable. Simulation and case studies demonstrate that combining modular service decomposition with robust fault tolerance strategies reduces downtime, improves system throughput, and enhances overall service reliability. This research contributes to the advancement of dependable distributed cloud architectures that can efficiently handle dynamic workloads and evolving operational demands
